Father Jerry's Message

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year! I am excited to be a part of the St. Monica parish community. As our parish theme states, "One Family in Christ," we are all in this together. Our efforts should all be centered in Christ. So as your Pastor, I am happy- and blessed!- to help lead the way.

Allow me to give you a little background on myself. I have been a priest for 20 years. My first assignment was at St. Alphonsus, Greendale, where I served on a team of three priests for five years. I then became the pastoral minister at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, where I taught several different theology classes; I coordinated the liturgies, retreats, service projects, campus ministry program; and I also coached the cross country and track & field teams. I served at DSHA for seven years, but continued to coach for a total of ten years. During my last year at DSHA I also took on the responsibility of St. Adalbert parish, South Milwaukee for one year. Finally, I was asked to serve as the priest-secretary for Archbishop Timothy Dolan, which I did for the five years before coming to St. Monica. Prior to be ordained a priest I was also involved at St. Mary's Academy, the former all-girls high school on the south side of Milwaukee, with coaching and campus ministry. So as you can see, I have had a vast array of experiences.

I have a great love for Catholic education, and I am proud of the fact we have an excellent school- indeed, an Exemplary one!- at St. Monica. Thank you for sending your children to our school. We are proud of what we are able to do, but we also realize that we do it all in and through Christ, for we are "One Family in Christ."

Have a great school year!

God Bless,

Fr. Jerry Herda
