Maria's Message

Dear St. Monica School Families,

Welcome to a new school year.  I want this year to include many positive academic and spiritual experiences for your child(ren).

My Catholic school leadership is founded on some fundamental principles; the most important of which is that we are first a Catholic school.  Our expression of faith must permeate throughout the day; in the classroom, in each area of the curriculum, on the playground and at extra-curricular activities.  Please join me in embracing our parish theme, "One Family in Christ".

Another important belief is rooted in an effective plan for curriculum and instruction.  Creating specific and relevant instructional goals is significant.  As an instructional leader, it is also important to provide and support numerous professional development opportunities for staff in order to enrich the classroom learning environment.

Setting high expectations for student achievement, personal responsibility and behavior are essential not only for academic success, but in creating a school environment that is safe and pleasant.  Mutual respect, trust and a caring attitude provides students with positive feelings about their personal, academic and spiritual growth and development.

Finally, it is a parent’s intuition that I rely on when assisting children.  The following is for all parents to consider:

If I Had My Child To Raise Over Again

If I had my child to raise all over again,
I’d finger paint more, and point fingers less.
I’d do less correcting, and more connecting.
I’d take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less, and know to care more.
I’d take more hikes, and fly more kites.
I’d stop playing serious, and seriously play.
I’d run through more fields, and gaze at more stars.
I’d do more hugging, and less tugging.
I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I’d build self-esteem first, and the house later.
I’d teach less about the love of power and more about the power of love.
~Diane Loomans

It is my sincere hope that you and your children have a wonderful year.  I’m looking forward to meeting each of you in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Maria Schram

"St. Monica School has many great qualities, but the most important one to me is the teachers. All of the teachers are great role models especially in applying the principles of Catholicism into everyday life."
