"We are on a Journey"
Each August, St. Monica School embraces a new theme for the coming school year. The theme for the 2011-2012 school year is “We are on a Journey."
In so many valuable ways, our students will live and learn the significance of this lesson. The 1st graders will collect and share school supplies for less-fortunate students of other area schools. The 2nd graders will share personal visits with the residents of the Miwaukee Catholic Home. The 8th graders will embark on a yearlong journey of spiritual growth and cultural education through the development of a relationship with the Lakota people of South Dakota. As part of the school’s “Buddy Program,” students of all different ages from every class in each grade level will be connected for learning and sharing opportunities – developing leadership skills, fostering a sense of responsibility, and promoting the importance of giving back. Truly, the examples of the “We are on a Journey" message will be visible and abundant!

The above examples are just some of the many ways in which the students of St. Monica School discover their responsibilities as stewards of the Catholic faith. In teaching our students to share their gifts with others, we teach them to answer God’s call to go forth in ministry and service. Similarly, school and parish leadership and staff answer God’s call to serve as stewards of the Catholic faith, working to fulfill the mission of St. Monica School of providing a Catholic education to learn, live, and love through Jesus. And, the many members of the larger parish and school community who so generously support SMS also respond to God’s call to serve as stewards of our faith. Students, staff, parish and school leadership, and larger parish and school communities – we all continue to answer God’s call to come together in advancing the school’s commitment to offer the finest in Catholic education. This commitment to Catholic education has led to success for St. Monica graduates for over 80 years – in the classroom and in their lives.
“God, we thank you for having blessed each of us with an abundance of spiritual gifts. We thank you for bringing us together as one school community, each with his or her unique set of gifts to serve one another. We believe you have arranged it so that among us we have all the gifts necessary for the building up of an entire family. None of us can do it without the others. But together, with your help, we can do anything. Through the gift of your wisdom, may we each come to know our part.”
In your name, we pray…
Amen.
